LE ROUX TAKES GQEBERHA VICTORY

Josh le Roux tackled the third round of the 2022 Investchem Formula 1600 championship with a level head and quiet confidence that lead to a great set of results and ultimately gave him the championship lead.

The weekend got off to a rocky start after a broken suspension on Friday morning. Fortunately, Josh’s team sprang into action and repairs were made between practice sessions. Saturday morning’s qualifying was a nail biter! Josh looked set to take pole position, when Alex Vos snatched the fastest lap on his final flying lap of the session, to beat Josh’s time by 0.003!

It was a charge to turn one as the first race of the day got underway. Josh did well off the line, holding onto second place. He maintained a steady pace, looking after his tyres, but as the mid-way point of the race arrived, Josh put his head down, putting in some very fast laps as he closed down the leader. By the penultimate lap, Josh was challenging for the lead. He attempted a few passes, but just couldn’t make them stick. Josh took the chequered flag second.

The Sparco ambassador lined up on pole for race two. He had a perfect start, holding onto the position into turn one and never looked back. Josh put in a flawless performance to take an unchallenged race win.

Josh ended the day first overall and also catapulted himself to the top of the championship points standings.

“I had a great weekend and again, my team did an outstanding job. The weekend was however a sad one with two members of the motorsport fraternity losing their lives in an accident on Sunday night. My deepest condolences go out to their families and loved ones,” commented Josh.

“I am grateful for every person who has been part of my motorsport journey and I am going out there to make you proud!”

Josh will now start making preparations for his upcoming British Formula Ford race.
