DOWN TO THE WIRE FOR JOSH LE ROUX

The 2022 Investchem Formula 1600 championship will come to an end this weekend (15 October) at Zwartkops Raceway, with the title honours going down to the wire. Josh le Roux leads the championship standings by just four points and the pressure is on.

2022 has been a rollercoaster season for Josh, who has experienced all the highs and lows that motorsport has to offer, condensed into an eight month period. The Sparco ambassador has taken five race wins this season and a total of seven podiums from twelve races. He has achieved three pole positions and taken points for three fastest laps. On the flip side, Josh has had two DNFs this year, having experienced both technical maladies and having been involved in on track incidents.

The racing has been exceptionally close and although those around him (especially his parents) are feeling the intensity of the upcoming race day, Josh is his usual “chilled” self.

“I am completely focused on the championship title, but I know overthinking it isn’t going to do any good. I need to take it one lap at a time and just give it everything I have. At the end of the day, you cannot control everything in motorsport and if it is meant to be, it will be. It will be a huge honour to win the title, but I also have a huge amount of respect for my fellow championship contenders. It really could go either way,” expressed Josh.

Josh is a former karter and is no stranger to racing under pressure. His humble and fun loving approach is, however, quite admirable and has won over a number of fans this season.
