IMPRESSIVE DEBUT FOR JOSH LE ROUX
Josh le Roux entered a new phase of his motorsport career this past weekend when he took part in his first main circuit race at Killarney Raceway on Saturday 20 March 2021.
Josh had a good start to the weekend, getting progressively faster throughout Friday’s practice sessions. This led up to a great qualifying session, in which Josh set the third fastest lap time, setting himself up to start his first ever Investchem Formula 1600 race from the second row of the grid.
The lights went out and Josh tackled his first standing start with aplomb, but in the frenzy in to turn one, he lost a position. Josh held on to fourth place for the majority of the race before a car in front of him ran off the circuit, elevating Josh to third place. About two laps from the end of the race, Josh got caught up in some back marker traffic and lost his position. He crossed the finish line just shy of the podium in fourth place.
Josh started race two from sixth on the grid and had a race long battle for fifth position. He with able to withstand huge amounts of pressure to take the chequered flag in fifth place. His superb performance placed him fourth overall for the day in his debut, national single-seater event.
“It was a fantastic weekend and I am over the moon with the results. A massive thank you to my family and my team for giving me a dream debut weekend and the best birthday present I could ever ask for,” enthused Josh.
The next round of the championship will be held on 17 April at Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria West.
