KILLARNEY ANGUISH FOR JOSH LE ROUX

Round 6 of the 2022 Investchem Formula 1600 Championship started off on a high note for Josh le Roux, but the event took a heart-breaking turn at Killarney last weekend, which decimated his championship lead.

The penultimate championship round was shaping up to be a dream event for Josh, after the Master Stairs backed driver showed good pace during Fridays practice sessions and put himself on pole position for the first race.

Josh had a good start to race one, positioning himself squarely in the lead into turn one. He never looked back. Josh opened up a 2.976 second gap to take an unchallenged win.

Although Josh and his team were overjoyed and feeling confident, the day took an unlucky turn.

Josh had a fair start to race two, from pole position, but it wasn’t good enough to give him a clear advantage into turn one. Josh found himself hit multiple times from behind. He managed to hold onto the lead for six of the ten laps before slowing and dropping through the field, with suspension and electrical damage from the contact earlier in the race.

“It was the worst feeling in the world to lose power and not only fall out of the lead, but drop to the very back of the field. That is the nature of motorsport I suppose. Fortunately, we still have one more round to try and secure the championship. I have faith that if it is meant to be, it will be,” commented Josh.

Josh’s demeanour in the face of disaster is inspiring and the Sparco ambassador will certainly keep the championship fight going. He heads into the final round with a one point lead.
