LE ROUX ON THE LIMIT AT GQEBERHA
Josh Le Roux pushed himself and his Investchem Formula 1600 single-seater to the limits on Saturday at the third round of the 2021 Extreme Festival, which took place in Gqeberha on 29 May 2021.
Less than three tenths of a second separated the top three qualifiers. Josh missed out on a front row start by just 0.118 of a second. Although he started third, he lost a position into turn one. Josh pushed hard and regained the position a lap later. He crossed the finish line in third place.
Race two didn’t go quite as planned. Josh again started from third place and looked set for another podium finish, but a small mistake saw him run off the track and drop to the back of the field. Josh had his work cut out for him, but managed to get up to eighth place before the race was red flagged.
“It was a good weekend and I am happy with my lap times considering it was my first race at Aldo Scribante. I was on the limit and although my mistake likely cost me a podium, I know I was giving it my all,” expressed Josh.
Josh finished eighth in the overall standings and is now fourth in the championship, with a one point deficit to third.
The next round of the championship will take place in East London on 3 July.
